Unfortunately, things got a bit disasterous once the family left. Things became very busy and stressful at my work. I'm sure everyone has heard of the H1N1 flu (swine flu) that hit the US. All of the health departments across the country quickly mobilized to deal with the outbreak. For the state of Utah, I was in charge of all of the surveillance activities for the virus. It was a rough time (things are still really busy), and I worked a lot of overtime.
That in and of itself wouldn't have been too bad, but around the same time, I came down with influenza (not of the swine flu origin!) which turned into bronchitis. I was so sick, and being pregnant didn't make it much better. I actually never took any sick time for it. I worked from home as much as possible to avoid infecting others, but still had to go in to the office for at least some time each day.
On top of that, they were doing maintenance on our HVAC system at work. The company contracted to do the work had originally told us the air would be off for a day or two. Unfortunately, when they took everything apart, they realized that they had not ordered a crucial piece. For the next 3 weeks, we had no air conditioning in our building. It would hit the mid-90's by afternoon, and continue to climb until we left at 6. The heat, with the flu, with the pregnancy, with the stress of the outbreak and the overtime, really made things hard.
For memorial day, Jeremy and I took separate vacations. I went to visit my family in California, and Jeremy went to see his brother, Curtice, in Seattle. Although it was a quick break, it was good to get out of the Utah heat!
Another exciting moment was Jeremy's 30th birthday!!! He's an old fart now. I was a horrible wife, because I was feeling nauseated and took an anti-nausea pill before he got home from work (which totally knocks me out), and I really don't remember much of that evening. Poor Jeremy, got to spend his birthday with his sleeping, pregnant wife. I'll make it up to him someday.
Life is starting to get back to normal. We are preparing for a weeklong trip to Buffalo, NY. I am going for a conference for work, but was able to get Jeremy out there for free with sky miles. It will be our last vacation with just the two of us for many, many years. We are looking forward to it!
30 weeks down, 10 more to go! Here's an updated belly shot!
