In Desperate Need of an Update!

I've wanted to update my blog for a while, especially since I have some great pictures of the girls on our camera. But I never seem to be able to find time to download the pictures OFF of the camera. So I've decided to update the blog anyway, and include some photos and videos from my phone. They're not the best, but it's better than nothing!

I've been back to work now for a little over 3 weeks. It's been tough, for sure, adjusting to the new schedule, and feeling like I don't have time to do anything. But it is good to get back into the swing of things. Ellie seems to be doing well in daycare, but I'm always thinking about her and worrying. I had the same feelings when I first put Olivia into daycare, but with Olivia, every time I would go down to check on her, she was always sleeping. I never once walked in on her fussing or crying, and the few times she was awake, she was always happy. Ellie isn't much of a sleeper, so I think I stress about her a little more because I know she spends most of her day awake. I worry about whether she is happy or not, bored, if she is crying, etc. I go down to see her just for piece of mind, and she usually seems pretty comfortable, although, of course, she is ALWAYS awake. There have been a few times she has been crying, but it is usually just while her bottle is being warmed up.

Olivia is such little girl now. I don't know when she went from being a baby to a little girl, but she is. She is so much fun, yet challenging!

She loves to read books. She reads them all the way to and from daycare everyday. Last night she fell asleep in her crib reading books to herself. She LOVES apple juice ("joo", as she calls it), and has recently developed a hankering for "noo-knows" (ie spaghetti noodles). Jeremy tucks her into bed every night, and tells her "good night sweetie", she says "nigh nigh weedie" back to him. So cute.

I found this in my backseat one very cold and rainy day after a somewhat slower commute into work. The following video is Olivia's first joke:

If you didn't catch it, the joke goes somewhat like this: "Hello?"

Yeah, that is the joke. Olivia thinks it's funny!

I just want to note, that that is all CLEAN clothes. I swear!

Ellie is such a sweet baby. She is so well behaved. For the first few months with Olivia, she (Olivia) would scream the entire way home from work in the car. Ellie has fussed a few times, but settles down pretty quickly. She is happy to just sit in her bouncer while we get dinner ready and eat, as long as she gets talked to every now and then. Her biggest issue is sleeping. Actually, sleeping isn't really her issue, her issue is gassiness - sleeping is just a casualty. Every night she gets really gassy and wiggly. She spends most of the night whipping her head back and forth, kicking her legs, swinging her arms, and pulling her knees to her tummy. Needless to say, I stay up most of the night with her. Her doctors (her pediatrician and the pediatric GI we took her to) both say that it is nothing more than an immature gut that she will grow out of, and, unfortunately, there isn't much we can do in the meantime. But in the meantime, we've tried everything - sleeping in the crib, sleeping in the papasan, sleeping in the swing, sleeping in the bouncer, sleeping in the car seat, sleeping with mommy, sleeping swaddled, sleeping unswaddled, more clothes, less clothes, hot baths, heat pads, herb packs, extra burping, simethicone gas medicine, acid reflux medicines, miralax for constipation, a mild muscle relaxant, and homeopathic colic tablets. I've also tried limiting my diet - to check for potential food allergens - no luck so far. The past two days and nights have been better, so we are hoping that things will start turning around soon. Ellie is on the verge of laughing. I can't wait until she does. It was so much fun when Olivia started laughing.

Olivia and Ellie's relationship is really growing. Olivia is so good with her sister. She gets so jealous at daycare when other kids pay any attention to Ellie. She pushes them away and says. "my baby".

I should note that shortly after this picture was taken, Olivia pushed Ellie out of the chair.

For the first few months, I always bathed the girls separately. Once I decided to put Olivia in Ellie's baby bath with her, just to see what happened. Olivia LOVED it - she helped me clean Ellie and loved having her baby so close. However, Ellie really loves the water, and really kicks and splashes. She ends up kicking Olivia in the belly, which makes Olivia cry. So no more baths together, at least, not until Ellie's out of the baby bath. Unfortunately, now when I bath Ellie, Olivia cries the whole time because she wants to get in. She tries to climb over into the water still dressed.

A couple of weeks ago Jeremy and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. 5 years! Wow! I can hardly remember what my life was like before I knew Jeremy. I have to remind myself that my memories from high school aren't his memories from high school, and that I can't just say, "Remember when ..." It just seems like he's always been there, and he should know!

Anyway, hopefully soon I will download all those pictures off my camera, and will be able to fill up another posting with some more great adventures of the Boulton Clan!
